Wrestlemania 27 Matchups: which matches have momentum going into the go home show?

that would have been fun, huh?

I will have a full predictions column on Friday. I will also like to take this moment to apologize for my lack of posts this month. My senior thesis was due this past Friday and required significant attention. Hopefully, next year I will be able to cover the Road to Mania in more detail next season.

Match with Most Momentum

Jerry Lawler vs. Michael Cole (with Jack Swagger in his corner) (Special Guest Referee: Stone Cold Steve Austin): This build has been professional wrestling at its best…there are two guys who have a huge grudge with each other, and then they are gonna settle it with a match at the biggest show of the year…this match is probably not selling many buys because the matchup is between two announcers, but boy oh boy, will people be hot for this match…great work WWE

Matches with Momentum:

Alberto Del Rio vs. Edge© (vs. Christian) (World Title): I can’t see why they would book Christian to defeat Del Rio unless he will be added to the match…this match should be really fun but Del Rio’s losses and the addition of Brodus Clay have taken away from his act and his heat

HHH vs. Undertaker (No Holds Barred): WWE has still not really booked an angle for this match yet…granted, I will never really complain about WWE just presenting a matchup and letting the matchup speak for itself, but I still think one heat angle on HHH could add some more momentum…still though, fans are pumped to see this match, and I am too…I hope WWE doesn’t blow it on Monday

Cody Rhodes vs. Mysterio: there always seems to be one feud during Mania season where the feud is booked entirely on Smackdown and then, that match seems so unimportant as a result: this is that feud in 2011…everything I have read about the feud sounds good but I don’t think I have seen a single angle for it yet…fans should be pretty hot for the match and it will probably be pretty good (if given more than 5 minutes)

Randy Orton vs. CM Punk: this feud almost died after the wife segment on last week’s raw…hopefully, these two will be booked to reestablish the positions of these two in the feud…match should be fine

Match with Least Momentum:

The yet to be announced Corre vs, Kane/Show team: this match has not been announced yet but already no one cares…The Corre has a stupid name, that is spelled even stupider, and they have ugly ass shirts: they are hopeless…Kane and Big Show flip flop between face/heel that the fans seem to no longer to be emotionally invested in them …I’m glad all these guys will get a nice payday but NO ONE WANTS TO SEE THIS

Matches without Momentum:

Cena vs. Miz© (WWE Title): The Miz is not over as a main eventer and Cena has been buried by the Rock every week for 5 weeks…thus, this match has no one excited…if anything, people may be excited for watching Cena vs. Rock but that match is not happening (at least for 6 months)…WWE needs to book a money segment between these two and the Rock on the go home RAW

Sheamus© vs. Daniel Bryan (US Title): the build up for this match has been terrible…Sheamus has been a loser forever until he suddenly beat the US champion for the title, which buries the former champion and the championship (and the concept of having to earn title shots)…although, people will probably start to get into the match if Sheamus keeps yelling that he is the champion of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA…match should be pretty damn good tho (if they can get 10 minutes)

Morrison, Trish Stratus, & Snooki vs. Ziggler and Laycool: I don’t think the WWE can do anything to really get fans excited for this match (although apparently they shot a trainwreck segment at a bar for this match)…likely, this match will be put together well enough to get the crowd into it, but this match ain’t drawing shit
